About This Artwork

There is a moment in many African villages when the night becomes very quiet. The air settles, conversations fade and then somewhere in the distance, the cry of an owl breaks the silence. In that moment, stories awaken. For generations, the owl has carried a heavy reputation across parts of Africa. Its presence in the night is often tied to superstition. whispers of witchcraft, omens or unseen forces moving through darkness. The bird itself becomes a symbol of something feared. But this painting was born from a different curiosity. What if the owl has been misunderstood all along? Here, the owl stretches across a vivid horizon where two worlds collide. The intense orange below feels like the human world. emotional, loud and filled with interpretations. Above it, the deep blue sky opens into something more spiritual, more infinite, almost like a silent universe watching from above. And between these two spaces, the owl exists. Not hiding in darkness. Not threatening. Just present. Its body is formed through bold, textured strokes, almost as if the bird is emerging from layers of history and belief. It feels ancient like a witness that has watched humans tell stories about it for centuries. Yet the owl itself says nothing. It simply watches. And slowly, the question begins to grow inside : Was the owl ever a creature of darkness… or did we simply place our fears onto the only bird brave enough to live comfortably in the night? Perhaps the night was never meant to frighten us. Perhaps it was meant to reveal who can truly see. And perhaps the owl has always known that. 🦉
