Artist Bio

Diana Mtiro is a charcoal artist exploring Christian theology through a lens of symbolic horror. Instead of sanitized religious imagery, Diana Mtiro’s work focuses on the weight of sin, the awe of the divine, and the visceral struggle of faith. Diana Mtiro’s journey as a Christian has never been just about comfort, it’s been an encounter with a presence both terrifying and beautiful. The horror like elements in her work aren’t a rejection of her faith, but an attempt to visualize its gravity.

Artist Statement

I came to Christianity broken, and my art reflects that honestly. My charcoal drawings are pages from a visual diary, my journey through doubt, spiritual warfare, repentance, and redemption. I use symbolic, often unsettling imagery because my inner world has never been neat. The Christian life, as I’ve lived it, involves battles unseen, old bones being raised to new life, and a God whose holiness is as fearsome as it is tender. My art lives in the space between the sacred and the unsettling. Working primarily in charcoal, I depict a Christianity that doesn't shy away from the macabre. And through every shadow i aim to point to the light.
